Norman Reedus (born
January 6,
1969) is an American model and actor.
Reedus was born in
Hollywood, Florida. Leaving home at the early age of twelve, he's lived in many countries including
England,
Spain and
Japan. He was first discovered at a party in
L.A. where he made a performance that he admits he "doesn't remember at all." A woman approached him afterwards and suggested he audition for a theater production she was involved in. Despite many rumors, Reedus didn't start his career off as a model. Although, he's modeled for
Prada,
Allesandro Delaqua,
Durban, and many others. Reedus has been in several films, including;
Floating,
Six Ways to Sunday,
Deuces Wild,
Blade 2,
Gossip,
Boondock Saints,
Mimic, and
8 Millimeter. Upcoming films include "
American Gangster" "
Hero Wanted" and the much anticipated "
Moscow Chill".
Reedus has also directed several short films and music videos and currently shows art work in galleries mostly based out of
New York. His most recent short film is entitled "Rub" and his first feature film directorial will be in early 2008. He also runs a film production company with his long time friend producer
Karin Cohen based out of New York entitled "Bigbaldhead".
Reedus lives in New York with his son, Mingus Lucien Reedus, whom he'd with model Helena Christensen. Mingus is named after the legendary jazz musician
Charles Mingus. Reedus is commonly known for playing the role of Murphy Macmanus in the cult movie, "The Boondock Saints," written and directed by Troy Duffy and opposite Sean Patrick Flanery and Willem Dafoe. He has confirmed returning for the sequel "Boondock Saints- All Saints Day" which is said to start filming in summer of 2008.
In 2003 Reedus got injured in a car accident after attending an REM concert. He had to undergo surgery on the left side of his face but is now fully recovered leaving only a thin scar above his left eyebrow.
